I am a healthy, young at heart, active female who loves
raising Leonberger dogs and we all love the cat that adopted
us, Mowie. I am holistic and love yoga and core secrets
routines, among others. Always looking for hiking friends.
Especially fond of horseback riding and tennis.
Thank you, I agree. I always loved the shepherd head and face , which they
do resemble. They are a working breed too, so share a lot of great qualities,
including water rescue, therapy work and scent & search and rescue work.
Laura and Leonbergers
We live in Texas now and are looking at buying a place with some land to it. I would love to have some sheep or a goat or two. I can't imagine what that would be like finding my sheep mauled! I'm glad she was able to get something to protect her babies.
It's hard to guess what you are getting when you adopt from a shelter. But I am a strong believer in shelter puppies. Our little Gussy is the only pure bred we have. I have to say he is shaping up to be the smartest of the bunch but they are all wonderful animals. They are more expensive than a Friday night movie but the entertainment factor lasts a lot longer. :)
I read a little about the Anatolian... the temperment sounds a bit like Hilde. She is very protective of us. When we put everyone outside she is the only one that won't come for a pet when we call them. She MUST stand guard over the yard. She only has time to look at us as if to say "I'm busy right now, I'll meet you inside on the couch. But please, not now!" Inside the ears relax, she loves to be petted and thinks she is a lap dog. But I also know she is still on alert.
This weekend I seriously thought I heard our garage door open, Hilde alerted to something right when I heard it and she even looked in that direction. I went to check it out and made sure she came with me... well, I went with her. When she saw where I was headed she took point. I am certainly never afraid of opening a door with my girl along side of me. :) It must be her instinctive nature because the only thing I train our dogs to do is curl up and take a nap with me. I would never train a dog to "guard".
My ex-husbands wife raised Malinois for a number of years. She believes Hilde is Malinois. We really aren't sure. She was a shelter baby and we were told she was German Shepherd & Rottweiler mix. Well there is as much rottie in her as there is in me!!! But she doesn't really have the GSD personality but everything Malinois fits her to a tee! We have no clue... all we know is she is our little love, our fierce protector and momma to the other 4 fluffies in our house.
